Japan Again

E aqui estou eu de novo a falar do Japão...Não é que não haja outros países onde eu queira ir, mas o Japão continua a estar no topo da lista e por isso mesmo fomos uma segunda vez, num espaço de 6 meses... Bem sei....o mundo é grande. Mas, a comprovar pelas fotografias acima, o Japão continua a ser um estimulo a nível criativo, sendo possível ir buscar ideias e referências a todo o lado. Desde as cores, à forma como aproveitam os espaços e até mesmo à arquitectura, tudo é significativo e tudo marca. De salientar o complexo Tokyo Midtown ou o Mori Art Museum que compensa a ida a Roppongi ou a zona de Nippori, com a célebre loja Tomato, para gosta de tecidos e afins.
Agora dou por mim a vir de casa para o escritório a pé e a reparar mais nas árvores que começam a ter flor e acho estranho que não haja mais pessoas nos parques ou que ninguém pare para tirar uma fotografia a uma nova flor que acabou de florir. E, cada vez mais, percebo o fascínio do meu pai pela agricultura e pelo gozo de ver as árvores, ano após ano, a passarem da flor para o fruto. Sem falar do meu sobrinho de 5 anos, Martim, que quando lhe pergunto o que ele acha de uma determinada árvore, me responde com um ar muito sério: "Sabes, acho que esta não se vai aguentar...mas vamos ver... eu e o avô estamos a cuidar dela."
And here I am again speaking about Japan... there are other countries where I want to go, but Japan continues to be high on the list and therefore we were there a second time in a space of 6 months. I know .... the world is bigger that this. But accordingly to the photos above, Japan remains a stimulus to creativity and we can get ideas and references from everywhere: the colors, how they work spaces and even the architecture, everything is significant and worth a note. Tokyo Midtown and Mori Art Museum are one of that things and it’s worth a trip to Roppongi. Also Nippori, with the famous store Tomato, can be a heaven to those who like fabrics.
Now, when I go to the office on foot, I seem to notice more the trees that have flowered and begin to think that is a bit strange that there is no one in the parks or that no one stops to take a picture to a new flower that has just bloomed. And, increasingly, I understand my father fascination for agriculture and the enjoyment that is to see (and to take care) that the trees, year after year, move from simple branches, to flowers or fruits. And it is also rewarding to hear my 5 year nephew, Martim, say with a very serious voice when I ask him about what he thinks about a specific tree: “You know, I don’t think this one will manage to survive, but we will see…me and grandpa are taking care of it".

O inicio do ano | Beginning a new year

Estou agora a começar o quilt! I'm still in the beginning...




Com o início do ano aconteceram imensas coisas: + A Rosa Pomar tem um site novo e muito giro, que me faz apetecer voltar para o Japão imediatamente. Cheio de livros e tecidos agora já compensa encomendar em Portugal!
+ Eu comecei a fazer um "quilt" e descobri estes dois blogs: a quilt is nice e crazy mom quilts que muito me têm ajudado nas instruções;
+ Comecei a fazer mais comida japonesa no dia a dia, agarrando a ideia com que ficamos no Japão de que há vida para além do sushi. O Just Hungry e o Just Bento são dois dos meus sites favoritos e a próxima experiência é mesmo esta sopa.
+ Decidi inscrever-me num curso de costura na Escola Europa, o que não quer dizer que nao continue a adorar o meu velho livro da Singer (que era da minha mãe) e que não gostasse mesmo era de ir aqui.

No entanto, de qualquer forma não quis deixar de colocar algumas fotos do Natal e do que foi fazer as filhoses, o pão ou os bolinhos de azeite (embora em minha casa não se sigam receitas!). Este fim-de-semana vamos outra vez para a "aldeia" (como diz o meu sobrinho Martim) fazer a poda da vinha.

With the New Year many things have happened: + Rosa Pomar has a new site (and a really nice one): it makes me want to return to Japan immediately. Full of books and wonderful fabrics now it’s worth to order in Portugal!
+ I started to make a "Quilt" and found these two blogs: “a quilt is nice” and “crazy quilts” that have helped me a lot with the instructions;
+ I started to make more Japanese food on a daily basis, grabbing the idea that we brought from Japan that there is life beyond the sushi. Just Hungry and Just Bento are two of my favorite sites and the next experience it will be this soup.
+ I decided to go for a sewing course. I will try Europa school in Lisbon, but I still love my old Singer book and I would love to go here.
However, I still post some Christmas about filhoses, bread or olive cookies (despite there are no written recipes in my grandparents house). This week-end we will go again for the "village" (as my nephew Martim says) to do the pruning of the vines.

Ainda do Japão / Still From Japan

Bem sei que já passaram quase dois meses, mas depois do choque da chegada só agora é que estou a construir o album da viagem e a arrumar algumas das novidades que trouxe. As almofadas de carimbos para tecidos são mesmo estas da fotografia (ainda trouxe em castanho) que comprei na loja mais espectacular do século, na zona fina de Ginza, a Itoya. Ou melhor, a sua loja do papel, a Paperium. Aprendi também que depois de carimbar tem de se passar a ferro, mas sem vapor (para variar não aprendi da forma mais difícil, ou seja a estragar qualquer coisa...). Trouxe ainda blocos para fazer os meus próprios carimbos e as ferramentas que também se pode comprar aqui. Agora o que eu precisava mesmo era de tempo...
I know that it has been already two months since I traveled to Japan, but after the shock of the arrival I’m only now organizing by travel album (more about this later) and some of the craft supplies I bought. The stamp pads for fabrics are the one on the photo (I also bought it in brown), from the most spectacular store of the century, in the Ginza: Itoya. Or rather, their sister store: Paperium. I also learned that after stamping I have to iron the fabrics, but without steam (for a change I didn’t learned it the worst way, in other words, spoiling something). I also brought blocks to make my own stamps and the tools that you can buy here. Now, that only thing I really need is time…

Do Japão / From Japan

Após quase três semanas no Japão, tudo me parece diferente. Como ainda não tive tempo de organizar nada deixo apenas algumas fotografias como remédio contra o inverno que se avizinha. Prometo que no fim-de-semana vou começar a carregar todas as fotos no flickr, fazer um post especial sobre o Japão a nível de "crafts" e, sem dúvida, publicar aqui fotografias de alguns dos livros que trouxe (sim, foi por um triz que não pagámos excesso de bagagem). Para quem já foi não sei, mas para mim o Japão significou uma injecção de criatividade e de novas maneiras de fazer as coisas (muitas vezes, melhor!). Sábado prometo um post mais completo, mas estava desejosa por partilhar já estas fotografias.
After nearly three weeks in Japan, now everything seems different. Since I still haven’t had the time to organize things I leave only a few photographs as a remedy against the coming winter. I promise that at the end of this week I will begin to load all the photos on Flickr, make a special post on Japan in terms of "crafts" and undoubtedly publish here photos of some of the books I brought (yes, we still managed not to pay baggage excess). For me the Japan meant an injection of creativity and new ways of doing things (often better!). Saturday I promise a more complete post, but was eager to share at least these photos.

Internacional

Esta foi uma semana muito internacional. Desde o chá da Mariage Frères que a minha mãe me ofereceu e que comprou na Moy - Rua D. Pedro V, 111 - (e que eu ainda não tive tempo de provar, mas juro que é este fim-de-semana), passando pelas lãs que me chegaram e a confirmação da viagem ao Japão (que vamos mesmo fazer e é já em Setembro), foi uma semana aberta para o mundo. Giro, giro foi também o almoço que tive ontem com a minha mãe e irmã numa loja em frente à Charcutaria Moy, que vende candelabros modificados e que na parte de trás tem um terraço lindo. O único senão é que só tem quiches e afins... Entretanto para miséria do meu cartão de crédito já descobri imensas lojas de craft em Tóquio.... vai ser uma perdição!! It was a very international week. From the Mariage Frères tea that my mother offered me and bought in Moy - Rua D. Pedro V, 111 - (that I still hadn’t the time to taste, but pretend to do so this week-end), the yarn that arrived from USA and the Japan trip confirmation (which we really are going to do in September), it was a week opened to the world. Really nice was my luch yesterday with my mother and sister in a shop that sells modified candlesticks and that in the back has a beautiful terrace. The only drawback is that only has quiches and related ... Meanwhile the misery for my credit card was that I already discovered many craft stores in Tokyo!
Ora aqui está a minha tão aguardada encomenda. Estas lãs vieram directamente de Nova Iorque, da Purl Soho, e estão guardadas para fazer um cobertor que vi aqui. Resolvi escolher eu mesma as cores (não queria nada muito masculino ou feminino) e não me arrependi. Pela primeira vez vou tentar começar eu um trabalho ( e não pedir à minha mãe) e para isso mesmo descobri estas instruções (que espero que me ajude!). A melhor parte é que esta linha pode ir à máquina, sendo que com os vermelhos o ideal é juntar vinagre branco destilado na primeira lavagem para agarrar a cor.
Well, here is my order as expected. These yarns came directly from New York, Purl Soho and are for a baby blanket I saw here. I choose myself the colors with no regret (did not want anything very male or female). For the first time I'll try to cast on myself (and not ask my mother) and for this reason I found these tutorial (which I hope can help me!). The best part is that this yarn can go to the washing machine, but with the red colors is best to add distilled white vinegar in the first washing to grab the color.
